About Us

On behalf of the Board of Education, administration, teachers, and staff, we would like to welcome you to Community Unit School District #20 Website.

We are pleased for the opportunity to share information about the many programs offered in our schools. We believe that through Internet technology all of us, especially our students, will gain knowledge and valuable experience to support learning now and in the future.

District 20 is located in Lawrence County, in southeastern Illinois, and includes the City of Lawrenceville and the Villages of Russellville, St. Francisville and Birds. This area is a rural community with many individuals traveling to surrounding communities for employment purposes. The district is a community where “kids” come first. The district boasts of a fine park district, many youth sporting organizations and close knit families who are involved in their children’s education.

Excellence in Education is our vision and we continue to strive for this excellence.

We have some of the finest public schools anywhere. Our schools are staffed by experienced, dedicated administrators and enthusiastic, hardworking teachers committed to making a positive difference in the lives of our students. We have a combination of technology-rich facilities and aging facilities that are well maintained to provide a safe, caring environment that is conducive to learning. Ongoing professional development is an integral part of District 20’s learning community. Our certified staff continues to participate in graduate programs. The ultimate effectiveness of our district depends on the quality of our employees.

District 20 is fortunate to have an active and highly involved Board of Education and an experienced administrative staff who bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to our work.

Building strong home/school partnerships is one of our keys to success. When parents are involved in their children’s education, the children excel.

We also embrace the concept of continuous improvement and work to incorporate the best practices into our instruction and curriculum. We make every effort to provide an educational program that is engaging and challenging and encourages students to develop into citizens who continue learning, not only inside the classroom, but also outside the classroom and throughout life. We believe each child is important. Every child comes to school with a different set of background experiences that make up his/her personality, attitudes, and abilities. It is necessary for our staff to make every effort to meet the needs of each student. This is a challenging task as District 20 educates 1350 students.

If you haven’t already had the opportunity, I encourage you to take a first–hand look at our schools, programs, and the activities of the Board of Education. Information relating to these can be found here within District 20’s web pages. We are extremely proud of our programs and facilities, but most importantly we are proud of our families, students, and staff.

Sincerely,
Charles T. Stegall, Superintendent
