Looking for parental input regarding block scheduling.

Since last October, the LHS staff has been looking at block scheduling this would be a change from the current 8 period schedule we currently operate under. We are looking at the possibility of going to an 8 block schedule where students would have 8 classes that would be broke down into 4 classes per day meeting on alternate days. Classes would meet for 80 minutes as opposed to the current 50 minutes. As a staff we are always looking for ways to improve instruction and the quality of education we are providing and this is an idea that we are looking at seriously.

End of an Era on the hill at LHS Gym.

Many of you will read an announcement that I posted for the schedule to honor past teams, coaches and student athletes that have competed in the LHS Gymnasium. If those walls could talk. The LHS Gymnasium is a special place to many of us who spent countless hours in the gym for practices, contests, proms and graduations. Over the next six weeks LHS will honor teams, coaches and the many student athletes who competed in this special place. I encourage all former students who participated or was there to cheer on their friends to attend these events over the next several weeks.

Summer Time

I hope everyone is having an enjoyable summer. Even though school is not in session, there are alot of things going on at LHS. LHS extra curricular teams and activities use this time for summer workouts and camps to build skills necessary for success throughout the school year. If you have a student interested in athletics or other extra curriculars, contact LHS or the coach. Dont miss out on an opportunity to participate at LHS. Also keep in mind, you do not have to be an athlete to participate. LHS offers more than just athletic opportunities for students to get involved.

Senior Scholarships

This year at LHS the Guidance office and I will be meeting with the Senior class during activity period once a month to discuss scholarship information. I met with them last week and asked for them to have a folder or binder to keep information. The meetings will start in September and focus on providing them scholarship information and deadlines. As we move closer to Spring the the Guidance office and myself will monitor the possible need to meet twice a month to check on their progress.
