Parkside Elementary Changes in Safety Procedures

January 4, 2013

 Dear Parents and Guardians,

Safety at Parkside

Dear Parkside Families,

I am sure you have been deeply affected by the recent tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Our deepest thoughts and prayers are with the community of Newtown in the days and weeks to come. I appreciate the comments that I have received from parents and teachers on our school policy concerning safety here at Parkside Elementary.

Veterans' Day Program

Good afternoon!  I hope that many of you were able to attend our Veterans' Day Program Friday presented by our fourth grade students under the direction of Mrs. Robin LeGrand.  The students did an excellent job and we were fortunate enough to have Mr. Ryan Roush create and present a very moving video of our local veterans.  I want to thank the veterans who have served and are serving in our armed forces.  I want to especially thank the veterans who took time out of their busy schedules to attend our program Friday.  It really meant a lot to all of us here at Parkside Elementary.

Parent/Teacher Conferences

As we finish the week and head toward a four-day week-end, I want to remind you to call the Parkside office (618-943-3992) to schedule a conference with your child's teacher.  Parent/teacher conferences are scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 25 from 4:30 - 8:00 P.M. and Friday, Oct.26 from 8:00 - 11:00 A.M.  Remember, no school Friday, Oct 5 due to Teachers' Institute and no school Monday, Oct 8 due to observance of Columbus Day.

Good Start at Parkside

We have had a great start to the 2012-2013 school year here at Parkside.  Our new positive behavior program called PBIS had a great kickoff the first day of school.  Students understand how they are to behave in all areas of the building and are earning lots of power tickets for following those behavior rules.  Power tickets are used to buy a variety of prizes that might include a sucker or the opportunity to have two problems taken off of an assignment.

As we end the 2011-12 school year

As the 2011-2012 school year comes to a close. I’d like to take the time to thank the parents of the Parkside students for all their help with the PTO this year. Your tireless effort and hard work has not gone unnoticed. I’d like to think the teachers and faculty for doing such a fantastic work with our children. Thank you is not enough for what you do throughout the year.
